FIRST Tech Challenge logo

FIRST® Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.

Program Details and Cost

FIRST® Tech Challenge’s thrilling robotics competitions help students develop a sense of accomplishment and the understanding that they can do anything with their collective skills, leadership, and confidence, and that their experience will positively impact their future and take them further than any other sport can.

An average team budget is $1,500-$2,000.   This includes the FIRST Program Fee of $325, the Texas Season Fee of $300, and $900-$1,400 in robot and game materials.  Many of the robot and game materials can be re-used from one season to the next.

Program Leaders

Our Program Leaders focus on statewide organization and support. They manage areas such as:

  • Texas-wide event planning, including the Texas State Cup
  • Volunteer coordination and training at a statewide level
  • Program policy and overall strategy for FTC in Texas

In general, start with your Program Delivery Partner for most questions. They can either assist you directly or connect you to the right Program Leader if something needs statewide attention.
